Tech Lead Web Engineer

    • Europe - Fully remote or hybrid in Amsterdam, Madrid, Valencia

Job description

DNA.inc seeks curious minds for adventurous missions

We’re looking for a Tech Lead Web Engineer with 8+ years of hands-on experience building modern web apps. This role is ideal for someone who’s deeply technical, still enjoys building, and thrives on solving hard problems collaboratively, not for those looking to move into line or people management.

This is a Senior+ / Staff- level technical role: you’ll shape technical direction, mentor other engineers, and lead delivery, without being expected to manage performance reviews or org charts.

We’re remote-first (Europe), with hybrid options in Amsterdam, Madrid, and Valencia.

About DNA.inc

At DNA.inc, we build the platforms and products people want to us, from streaming media to next-gen automotive interfaces. We partner with global clients to imagine, design, and ship large-scale software, collaborating closely with internal teams to raise the bar for both product and craft.

You’ll join a team of experienced engineers, designers, and product folks who’ve worked on products like Disney+, Eurosport, SiriusXM and PayPal. We care deeply about quality, learning, and having fun along the way.

About the Job

As a Tech Lead Web Engineer, you’ll take full technical ownership of a major client program. You’ll help define the architecture, steer implementation, and guide a small team of engineers toward building robust, elegant, high-impact solutions.

This is a high-autonomy, high-context role for someone who enjoys being hands-on, shipping code regularly, while also acting as a technical reference for others. You’ll work closely with client-side product and engineering stakeholders to turn ambitious ideas into technical reality and keep a high bar for excellence along the way.

Even if you’re fully remote, you’re welcome to visit our clubhouse in central Amsterdam or join us at offsites, meetups, and conferences across Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, architecture, and execution of web engineering efforts for client-facing platforms.

  • Collaborate with client stakeholders to shape technical roadmaps and align with strategic goals.

  • Remain deeply involved in coding and reviewing: this is not a management role, but a technical one.

  • Mentor and support 3–5 engineers, helping them grow in technical depth and delivery maturity.

  • Champion maintainability, performance, and software quality across the project lifecycle.

  • Evolve DNA.inc’s internal practices through technical leadership, code contributions, and peer support.

Job requirements

Technical Leadership (not People Management)

This role demands technical depth and delivery maturity, not people management experience. You’ll be expected to provide strong architectural direction, identify and resolve system-level issues, and act as a technical north star for the team, while continuing to write and ship quality code yourself.

You should be fluent operating at the intersection of code, architecture, and product thinking, with the ability to zoom in and out as needed.

Must-haves

  • 8+ years of professional experience in building web apps with modern frontend stacks.

  • 5+ years of hands-on React experience (including hooks, state management, and rendering strategies).

  • Deep experience with TypeScript, JavaScript ES6+, HTML5, and CSS3 (SASS/SCSS).

  • Backend experience with Node.js and API integration (REST, ideally GraphQL).

  • Proven experience designing and building large-scale, high-traffic applications.

  • Strong working knowledge of modern development practices: CI/CD, testing, build pipelines.

  • Passion for clean architecture, modular code, and long-term maintainability.

  • Experience mentoring engineers in day-to-day delivery and improving their craft through code and tech initiatives, not performance reviews.

  • Commercial awareness: ability to weigh engineering tradeoffs in the context of business goals.

  • Based in Europe, with excellent written and spoken English.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with streaming media (audio/video)

  • Reactive programming (RxJS, Redux Observables)

  • Vite, NX, or Next.js

  • Media player integrations

  • Design systems and UI architecture

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary aligned with your experience and region

  • Remote-first, with hybrid options in Amsterdam, Madrid, and Valencia

  • Flexible working hours and location

  • Clear growth path

  • Collaborate with senior peers across disciplines

  • Travel support to meet coworkers, attend events, or work from other DNA hubs

  • Regular offsites across Europe

  • Support for home office setup (hardware, tools, etc.)

  • Country-specific benefits like pension and healthcare (inquire for details)
